Duane Zobrist

Mr. Zobrist is the founder of the firm. His practice focuses on corporate and business law with special emphasis on business and tax planning, banking, finance, securities offerings, domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, and international business, finance and trade transactions.

He is a former senior partner at Carlsmith Ball, a major Pacific Rim law firm, with offices throughout the Pacific Basin, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Mexico, D.F.

Selected Matters:

  •  Mr. Zobrist was a Trustee of the Brazil-California Trade Association from 1974 to 1991 and President from 1979 to 1981 and 1991 to 1994;

  • He co-authored the “Businessman’s Legal Guide to Doing Business in the United States” in 1992;

  • Mr. Zobrist was the Chair of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce from 1994 to 1998; and

  • He was the Commissioner of the Albemarle County Planning Commission from 2005 to 2007 and 2010 to 2013.

Background:

Mr. Zobrist graduated from the University of Utah in 1965 and the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1968. He was first admitted to practice law in California in 1969 and was admitted to practice law in Virginia in 2002. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of Directors for the University of Southern California Law Alumni Association from 1967 to 1991 and President from 1977 to 1978.

Mr. Zobrist is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has served as the Director of the Mexico City Temple Visitor’s Center, Mission President in Brazil from 1998 to 2003, and as a Stake President’s Bishop, High Councilor and full-time Missionary in Brazil. He was honored for his international service to the Church at the 150th anniversary of the Church in the British Isles.

Mr. Zobrist is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He and his wife, Sharon, have five children and 16 grandchildren.
